Summer Colds in Midtown Omaha
I hate summer colds.
And this one is lingering.
Colds are pesky. I know it's temporary, but it means I'm temporarily feeling crummy and don't have the energy to do fun stuff like (insert anything here that is fun and involves getting off the sofa).
And I get dramatic about my colds.
Me, sitting up with my legs stretched out on the sofa, covered with a blanket. I gaze past the balcony doors, into the skies of Midtown: "Winter must be cold for those with no warm memories..."
Adorable Husband: "What? Do you need another blanket?"
Me: "I'm re-enacting a scene from An Affair to Remember. The cat and I will be performing scenes from The Glass Menagerie in the kitchen at 6:00."
Adorable Husband: "Have you taken too much Mucinex?"
"Me, sitting up with my legs stretched out on the sofa, covered with a blanket. I gaze past the balcony doors, into the skies of Midtown: "Winter must be cold for those with no warm memories..."
I missed two and a half days of work, and the rest of these two weeks I've been schlepping it in there, trying to hide and contain my germs to my office. Well-meaning coworkers pop in to say, "That's a horrible cough. Have you been to the doctor? Now excuse me as I completely hand sanitize myself."
Yes, I went to the doctor and he informed me that yes, it is a summer cold and yes, it is lingering. I crossed 72nd street and put on a paper gown for that news?
So he gave me some prescription meds which was a start to being on the mend, but I'm still coughy-tired-sneezy-blah. I've boosted Kleenex sales in Midtown.
So, since I don't have the energy to do outside-y stuff like ride my bike or rock climb (I've never done rock climbing but now that I can't, I wanna) or doing an IronMan (I've never done an IronMan, but now that I can't, I wanna) or alligator wresting (I've never done alligator....oh, you see where this is going).
Most of my free time has been just sitting on the sofa and drawing.
I'll admit it. There's something nice about slowing life's pace to a crawl. To just sit on the sofa, sip tea, and draw. And eat chocolate cake. Have you seen the article in the New England Journal of Medicine touting the healing powers of chocolate cake?
Neither have I. 😉
The art you see here is part of my Summer Cold Collection - just the random doodles of a woman who's had one too many Ricola.
Until next time, be well!
